What causes an ingrown toenail?
This is a question we are frequently asked. The answer is not always straight forward as ingrown toenails vary a lot in their presentation and cause.
Common causes include:
- Poor nail care or cutting
- Nail shape
- Stubbing your toe
- Tight or inappropriate shoes
- Sweaty feet
If the nail isn’t infected and the deviation of nail is small, we may trim the corner and shape the nail to help relieve your symptoms and correct the problem. In some more advanced or re-current cases we may need to remove one side of your nail back to the cuticle. The base of the nail is then treated with a chemical to keep the ingrown part from growing back. To prevent pain, a local anaesthetic is usually used in these advanced procedures.
We have specialised and refined our procedures over fifteen years and with frequent treatments to have these corrected, they can be fixed once and for all. You don’t have to put up with these painful and unsightly nails. Our surgical techniques and procedures are guaranteed to provide the best possible outcomes with the very least pain. In fact, our surgical interventions carry a 98% success rate.
We literally guarantee our nail surgery, ask us about this at the consultation.
